About Durnovaria Deer Management

About Durnovaria Deer Management

More than 15 years working with deer across Dorset has provided the practical experience, while formal training and recognised qualifications have added the structure behind it. Together, they allow us to approach deer management with sound judgement, clear objectives and an understanding of what each site actually needs.

Training & Qualifications

My deer management journey began over 15 years ago, when I assisted a friend with deer management on a large estate in the New Forest. These early experiences gave me invaluable insight into deer behaviour, large-scale population pressures, and the importance of structured, ethical management. They also fuelled my drive to formalise my knowledge and pursue professional qualifications.

Formal Qualifications:

  • Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1 (2015)

  • Deer Stalking Certificate Level 2 (2021)

  • LANTRA Advanced Deer Management (2023)

  • Emergency First Aid at Work (+ Forestry)

  • Humane Animal Dispatch

Proffessional Standards :

  • Fully insured through BASC with up to £10 million Public Liability, Employer Liability, and Product Liability cover.

  • Committed to UK Deer Best Practice Guidance, developed by the Deer Initiative and endorsed by DEFRA, Forestry England, and Natural England.

Our Work Today

Today, our work includes deer population assessment, targeted population reduction and ongoing management across farms, estates and conservation land.

I lead the work directly, bringing in a network of experienced deer managers where the scale or frequency of a programme requires additional capacity.
